I am a semi-finalist in the Gender Gaze Exhibition as part of the 2016 Brisbane Festival. The exhibition runs from 15-24 September at Metro Arts. The photograph being exhibited is ‘Tea Party: Anna’s-28th-and-a-half-year birthday pantomime’ and my artist statement reads: ‘I decided to stage a tea party with my childhood toys. While it was fun, the process also raised questions about gender roles and repeating learned behaviours.’
As part of being a semi-finalist my photograph was also shown on a Billboard!
Anna was shortlisted for the 2016 Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards for her photograph ‘The Poets at Below Deck’.
Below Deck was once a month from April 2015 – April 2016 and run by poet Sophie Tarrant. Within this space, chalk drawings adorned the walls together with an assortment of old paintings and objects. When filled with a mixture of dazzling poets amid low lighting, the event burst with atmosphere.
Photographers were asked to submit images that reflected Brisbane’s creative lifestyle.
This is Anna’s second time as a finalist in the Clayton Utz Launch Art Award, an award for Queensland artists. Her photographic artwork ‘He Ate Up the Sky’ was selected along with forty-three other finalists.
‘He Ate Up the Sky’ plays with double exposure on medium format film mixed with a circular poem overlay. The work will hang in the Clayton Utz offices for one year and is for sale.
My photograph ‘Backyard Flight’ was shortlisted for the People’s Choice Awards, in the 2014 Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards. ‘Backyard Flight’ is part of a series based on my brother and a makeshift superman outfit. It catches the moment mid-air as he takes a flying leap above our Brisbane suburban swimming pool.
Anna’s image ‘Regeneration’ was selected to project on a slideshow at the Queensland Centre for Photography for the 2014 Space and Place photography competition.
You are welcome to the opening of Deck the Walls, at the Bleeding Heart Art Gallery on Thursday 28 November 2013 from 5.30pm to see selected works from my FantasyScape series.
Anna’s artwork from her ‘Travel By Rocking Chair’ series was selected for the Six Years Later ‘Surface’ Issue from over 520 submissions and printed alongside forty-four featured artists.
Anna is a finalist in the Lord Mayor’s 2011 Photographic Awards. Her work ‘The Letters’ will be exhibited in King George Square from Thursday 13 October to November 6, 2011.
Anna has three photographic works in Brunswick Street Gallery’s 2011 Small Works Prize Exhibition.
Celebrate the opening night 6-8pm, Friday 17 June 2011. The exhibition runs until 29 June 2011.
